Evolution of 10 most common cancers

This page shows how mortality from major cancer types has evolved in Belgium between 1955 and 2021. The figures are presented as crude mortality rates per 100.000 inhabitants, meaning adjusted for population size. However, crude rates do not account for changes in the population’s age structure.

These trends illustrate the changing burden of different cancers, reflecting developments in risk factors, prevention, early detection, and treatment.

Because male mortality from lung cancer is substantially higher than for most other cancer types, lung cancer is presented on a separate scale.
